Amazon Resume Tips: Optimize for Amazon's Hiring Bar

How to write a resume that passes Amazon's ATS and demonstrates Leadership Principles. Keywords, format, and STAR method tips.

Amazon's unique hiring approach

Amazon's hiring process is famously rigorous. Everything revolves around their 16 Leadership Principles: Customer Obsession, Ownership, Invent and Simplify, and others. Your resume needs to pass ATS screening AND demonstrate these principles through concrete examples.

The STAR method on your resume

Amazon interviewers use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to evaluate candidates. Your resume bullets should follow a similar pattern: describe the challenge, your specific action, and the measurable result. 'Reduced order processing time by 35% by redesigning the fulfillment pipeline, saving $2.1M annually.'

Amazon-specific keywords

AWS (the most important one), S3, EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, CloudFormation, customer obsession, ownership, bias for action, dive deep, operational excellence, scalability, two-pizza team, working backwards, mechanisms, flywheel, bar raiser.

Metrics Amazon cares about

Amazon is obsessed with metrics. Every bullet on your resume should include a number. Revenue impact, cost savings, efficiency gains, customer satisfaction scores, latency improvements, scale (requests per second, data volume), team size managed. 'Managed' is weak; 'Owned end-to-end' is strong.

Format and length

Amazon recruiters prefer clean, detailed resumes. Two pages are acceptable and often preferred for experienced candidates. Use a simple format with clear section breaks. Don't use a header/footer for critical information. Include your LinkedIn URL.
